Springsteen’s ‘Letter to You’: Apple TV+ Gets Up Close and Personal with The Boss

Bruce Springsteen is an American legend, a true poet and an all-around brilliant artist. Lately, he has also been something else: talkative.

For much of his storied career, Springsteen hasn’t been one to open up too much. He would talk about his inspirations, sure, and what his songs meant and made his opinions known several times. But he was always still a fairly reserved guy when opening up about himself. But over the last few years, The Boss has written a (wonderful) autobiography, spilled out his heart on Broadway, revealed a life-long battle with depression and created personal music that he hasn’t been afraid of really pulling apart and discussing.

That trend continues with Letter To You, a new documentary about his upcoming album of the same name. The doc will air on Apple TV+ and the trailer above promises another conversational piece from America’s greatest musician. The album is especially personal and intimate, it was written during a time when Springsteen’s close life-long friend passed away and the performer dealt with his age and themes of loss, grief and all the things that people in their 70s grapple with. Springsteen being Springsteen, he used this difficult time as an opportunity to bring the E Street Band together to create some music. The album was recorded live in Springsteen’s home studio and it sounds appropriately raucous and lively.

I will make no secret of my love for Springsteen. The guy is one of my biggest heroes. I am super excited to see him using cinema as a means to express himself over the last few years. Letter To You will definitely be a close, honest look at one of the greatest. It’ll start streaming October 23 on Apple TV+.
