‘The Invisible Man’ Trailer: Elizabeth Moss Has a Horrible Ex

I am impressed with director Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man based on this trailer alone. Whannell has obviously taken the original classic horror film and turned it on its head. Actually, what he has done here is taken the concept of The Invisible Man and has injected some disturbingly realistic horror into it. No longer is this movie just about a human being who cannot be seen. It is about the trauma and horror that people can inflict on others and the damage that does. It is about much, much more than someone disappearing.

I got all of that from the trailer alone. That’s how you know you’ve watched a well-made trailer.

The film is titled The Invisible Man but it looks like Ms. Elizabeth Moss will be the one doing the most remarkable work here. We shouldn’t be surprised that Moss looks terrific, she is a fantastic actress. Whannell and the horror genre are lucky to have her. The looks she gives in this trailer are just downright terrifying and so sadly real.

A lot of people are burned out on the many movies about people seemingly going crazy with no believing them so I can understand if some aren’t completely sold on this movie. Then again, most movies related to characters losing grip on reality don’t involve an abusive ex-husband becoming an invisible menace so I say give this one a chance.

Universal had plans a few years ago to resurrect their classic movie monsters in a very straight-forward way (R.I.P. Dark Universe) but I think they should instead allow filmmakers like Whannell to tackle these characters in new, innovative approaches. Let them explore the possibilities that each hold. It seems that’s what Whannell is doing with The Invisible Man and if the movie is even half as good as this trailer then we are all in for a seriously unsettling treat.

Also, I really love the poster (below). I stared at the damn thing for so long thinking I would find something and that’s really the point, isn’t it?

The film centers on Cecilia Kass (Elisabeth Moss), a woman trapped in a violent, controlling relationship with a wealthy and brilliant scientist. She escapes in the dead of night and disappears into hiding, aided by her sister (Harriet Dyer), their childhood friend (Aldis Hodge) and his teenage daughter (Storm Reid). But when Cecilia’s abusive ex (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) commits suicide and leaves her a generous portion of his vast fortune, Cecilia suspects his death was a hoax. As a series of eerie coincidences turn lethal, threatening the lives of those she loves, Cecilia’s sanity begins to unravel as she desperately tries to prove that she is being hunted by someone nobody can see.
