Shhhhhh! Hush Is Coming to ‘Batwoman’

Let’s get this out of the way right now: it’s very unlikely that Batman will ever appear on the upcoming series Batwoman. We know that DC and WB are very, very, VERY protective of their most popular superhero. So if you’re hoping to see Bruce Wayne suit up on the new CW show then you’re in for disappointment.

But that doesn’t mean we won’t see other, popular Batman heroes and villains on the show. In fact, knowing The CW, it’s likely that we will see quite a few of them as the seasons go on. Look at what the network has done with their other DC shows. The damn things are PACKED with popular comic characters.

Just today at Comic-Con, Batwoman showrunners revealed that the first season of the series will introduce Tommy Elliot. Who is Tommy Elliot, you may ask? Comic fans will recognize that Elliot is a wealthy Gotham citizen who holds a huge grudge against Batman and eventually becomes the villain known as Hush. The Hush story was a massive comic arc, created by Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee. It’s probably one of the most popular storylines of the last twenty years. Modern day Batman villains haven’t always been fantastic (although Tom King has created some memorable ones) but Hush is one of the exceptions, he fit perfectly in the Batman universe and hasn’t been used much since sadly. The idea of him making the leap to screen — big or small — is exciting. It’s also exciting to know that Batwoman will be able to pluck characters from the vast DC rogues gallery. They won’t be solely relying on their own original characters.

So, no, you won’t be seeing Batman any time soon on Batwoman but you will see some of the folks who have roughed him up. And, who knows, if enough people watch the show maybe DC will be comfortable with the idea of Bats popping up every once in awhile. It sounds like Batwoman will need the help.
