Below is the first trailer for Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet, the new AppleTV+ show from Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day and Megan Ganz (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia). The series stars McElhenney as Ian Grimm, video game developer and loud-mouth douche bag. It’s a part that McElhenney will have no problem playing. Take a look at the trailer below.

Funny, right?

The jokes don’t hit as hard as they should and the basic premise and plot feels a bit tired but McElhenney’s terrific work on Sunny all these years has earned him the benefit of the doubt with me. Plus, Mythic Quest is an AppleTV+ show, meaning it has literally zero restrictions and allows McElhenney and crew to do whatever they want without fear of censorship. Not that I expect McElhenney to start going wild but it’s nice to know that he can.

While he’s been playing a pumped-up, puffy-chested douche for years on Sunny, it’s still always funny to see McElhenney play that part. Sure, he hasn’t shown much range in his characters yet but it’s still damn fun to see him perform. I’m down to see him portray a new cocky bro in a new environment. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet is one of the many projects AppleTV+ has lined up in the months ahead. Good thing too because the streaming service has definitely dropped off in terms of buzz since its debut. The Morning Show, For All Mankind and See all failed to garner the hype that Apple had hoped for. In fact, what little buzz they had was all drowned out by The Mandalorian, The Witcher and other streaming shows. You have to imagine Apple isn’t too happy about that since they’re not used to being underdogs. But this is entertainment, Apple. It’s not the same as creating phones or computers. Apple is learning the ins and outs of show business the hard way. They won’t stop trying and they’ll likely have that breakout hit series in time but they definitely want it sooner rather than later. Will Mythic Quest be that genuine smash that sets the internet on fire and really puts AppleTV+ on the map? We’ll see when it premieres on February 7.
