‘Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous’ Trailer: Dinos & Kids Don’t Mix

If there is one thing the Jurassic Park/World movies have taught us, it’s this: watching children in peril is fun. Remember when that little girl had to do crazy gymnastics to escape raptors in The Lost World? How about when those brothers in a giant, clear ball outraced a T-Rex in Jurassic World? I fondly remember when that poor little boy was electrocuted by an electric fence back in Jurassic Park. Delightful!

The new Netflix original series, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, is all about kids getting into dangerous situations with genetically-modified dinosaurs so you know I’m sold. The new trailer (above) shows us a bunch of campers who get more than they bargained for when their summer vacation gets terrorized by dinos. Why would anyone send their kids to a camp at Jurassic World? Beats the hell out me, rich people do crazy things.

Spielberg and Colin Trevorrow produced the CG cartoon series, which debuts on September 18th. It looks and feels a bit dated but I’m kind of into it. Despite all its faults, the Jurassic series has always contained at least some excitement and thrilling adventure in every film. I’m afraid that some — if not all — of that excitement will be lost when everything is computer-generated but I am also hoping that there is at least some magic in Camp Cretaceous.

Side note: is it just me or is it crazy that this is the first Jurassic Park/World show? The movie series has been around since the early 90s and not once has any network attempted to convert the franchise to the small screen. I’d say it’s about damn time that we get a show based on the storied series.

There’s a good chance that we will still all be stuck at home when this show premieres in September so don’t write Camp Cretaceous off so quickly, you may be binging it in a couple months when there’s nothing else to watch.
