KEVIN SMITH LOVES PORNO

Kevin Smith has finished the script for his next next film (remmber, he’s doing the low-budget flick Red State before anything else) and now we know the title: Zack And Miri Make A Porno. Never one for subtlety or misdirection, the script is about exactly what you think it’s about. From the LA Times: “A bawdy sex comedy with heart,” as Smith describes the just-completed script, “Zack and Miri” is about two friends who have managed to trudge into their 30s with a satisfying lack of accomplishment. But a 15-year high school reunion and dire rent problems spark the novel moneymaking idea of pulling together an amateur porn enterprise.

Smith has always been obsessed with talking about sex, so I’ve already got a pretty good idea of what Zack and Miri is going to have on offer.

Do you want to know more? Kevin Smith had a lot more to say over at his blog.

Some folks have already said “Sounds like The Girl Next Door…” or “Sounds like The Amateurs…” A few British cats have drawn comparisons to a flick called I Want Candy. I certainly can’t deny that Zack and Miri has nothing in common with said flicks - namely the subject of porn movies; but I can tell you that that’s about where the similarities begin and end, as far as I know.

Notice what he didn’t mention there? That’s right – Lucas Moodysson’s amateur porn nightmare A Hole In My Heart. We know Smith loves dolls action figures, so I wouldn’t put it past him to do a little play acting a la Moodysson’s unfathomably creepy film.

Ok, fine, we all know that’s a total reach. And Smith himself describes the thing in slightly more detail: Granted, I’m biased because I wrote it; but I really dig this script. It’s funny, bawdy, sexy, dirty, titillating (emphasis on the tit) and dripping with heart. If you were gonna do that movie-description thing, I’d say it’s like Chasing Amy meets Clerks II, with a dash each of Boogie Nights and Bowfinger tossed in.

Seriously, has no one told Smith that Bowfinger isn't the name to drop? The script is under lock and key, but supposedly being read by Rosario Dawson shortly; she’s currently the only name that’s been bandied about in relation to the film.
