Grim Reaper: End of Days (Novel/Comic)
In the wake of 9/11 Steve Alten (Meg, Domain, The Loch) and I went to New York and visited the scene of the tragedy. We walked Manhattan from one end to the other and were even granted access by the Transit Authority access to the catacombs beneath the city to research what was first a screenplay. After we finished the screenplay, it became a book that we collaborated on. Grim Reaper: End of Days. It was to be the first of a trilogy, echoing Dante's Inferno, Purgatory, and Paradise. The results were dark, brutal, and quite a bit too political. The book sold well but wasn't a huge hit or anything. We never finished the trilogy and not surprisingly, my participation was downplayed in subsequent printings. I even hired an artist named John Toledo to do Gustave Dore-esque illustrations for the novel, which are shared below. I also began work on a comic book version. below are the fruits of those efforts. The audiobook for Grim Reaper: End of Days is here, however they cut out my co-writing credit as well as my afterward.
