Madonna has appeared in some so-so films (Evita, Four Rooms) some really crappy films (Swept Away, The Next Best Thing) and one bonafide classic (Dick Tracy). But will her next theatrical project be about her?
The “Material Girl” singer posted a short video on Instagram showing her and screenwriter Diablo Cody collaborating on some unnamed and announced project. In the video, Madonna sits on a couch, having a snack and talking about her famous Jean Paul Gaultier costume from the 1990s while Cody types away on a laptop. In front of them, multiple notebooks. The caption reads “when you’re stuck in a house with multiple injuries what do you do? Write a screenplay with Diablo Cody about…?”
Already, many have assumed that Cody is writing a screenplay about Madonna and that seems pretty likely. Now, will it be a straight-up biopic about the singer or will it be a story influenced by her career? That remains to be seen. If the performer and Cody are planning to make a movie about Madonna or a Madonna-like figure, now’s the perfect time. Musical biopics are all the rage right now and one about Madonna would definitely attract a lot of interest. But, like I said, perhaps they are working on a totally unrelated project and just happen to be talking about Madonna’s career.
If a Madonna movie is in the works, who would you have play her? I imagine her portraying herself at an older age, relaying the story of her life via a long flashback featuring a younger actress. It would be like Bilbo telling his tale during The Hobbit. I can see it now: “His name was Vanilla Ice and he captured my heart and soul...”
