After years of toying with the idea, Disney is officially getting back into the Tron game (no pun intended).

Deadline says that Garth Davis has signed on to direct Tron 3, which will star Jared Leto. Leto has been the rumored star of the third Tron film for some time but Davis’s involvement is brand new and confirmation that Disney really is moving forward with the sequel.

Now, Davis’s earlier films — Mary Magdalene and the Oscar-nominated Lion — don’t seem like the type of movies that would land someone a gig directing a film about a virtual computer world come to life but apparently Davis has been “aggressively” pursuing the gig. Hey, good for him. Tron was influential and important to a lot of filmmakers, including those who would go on to direct more by-the-book prestige dramas. Davis obviously wants the job and that suggests he’ll do a good job directing.

Ever since rumors of Tron 3 surfaced, they have revolved around the idea of the universe of Tron somehow infiltrating the real world. We don’t have an official plot synopsis but I’d be down with that idea. Aside from Leto, we have no idea who else will appear in the film. Surely, it won’t just be Leto and...Leto. At least I sure as hell hope not because I can only handle so much of him.
