What once was CBS All Access is now Paramount+.

After months of promising a major rebrand, ViacomCBS announced today that its streaming service, CBS All Access, is changing names and will be known as Paramount+ starting in early 2021. The company not only revealed the name change but also highlighted a few new projects that’ll make their home at Paramount+.

  • The Offer will be a limited series about producer Al Ruddy’s journey to make The Godfather.

  • Lioness will be a drama from Yellowstone mastermind Tyler Sheridan about a young Marine attempting to bring down a terrorist ring from the inside.

  • The Real Criminal Minds is obviously based on the popular CBS show but, you know, real.

  • The Game will be a reboot of the long-running BET sitcom.

  • MTV’s Behind the Music — The Top 40 will be a “reimagining” of the popular 90s TV staple following the rise (and sometimes fall) of iconic music acts. The Top 40 will focus on — you guessed it — the 40 biggest artists of all time.

There is obviously more in development too. Paramount+ will have a large catalogue to chose from and will be beefing up its selection. Current CBS All Access shows like The Twilight Zone, Star Trek: Discovery and The Good Wife will all be available after the rebrand, as will upcoming Star Trek spinoffs and The Stand. Between all the TV and movie properties that Viacom owns, Paramount+ is going to be a hefty service.

As for the new name, it feels a bit silly, doesn’t it? At this point, which streaming service doesn’t have a plus sign at the end of it? It’s just a foregone conclusion that if your company has a streaming component, it’ll have a + thrown on at the end of its name. But if you can get past the name, Paramount+ is actually worthy of your time. It has a lot to choose from and even more coming soon. It has a stupid name but, hey, don’t judge a book by it’s cover.
