It Continues: Disney Eyes Marc Webb for Live-Action 'Snow White'

I am starting to feel like a broken record.

Disney is focusing on yet another live-action adaptation of animated film. This time they’re looking at a remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. And they’ve already got a director in mind to helm the project: The Amazing Spider-Man’s Marc Webb is the front-runner to direct. They’re also circling Girl on the Train screenwriter Erin Cressida Wilson to pen the script. Nothing is finalized but Variety says that these two are the clear favorites.

For those who don’t know, Snow White tells the story of…what am I doing? Everyone knows the plot of Snow White, right? I think you HAVE to watch the film as a kid. It’s like a rite of passage for childhood.

This live-action take of Snow White is revving up years into the live-action craze that has enraptured Disney. That’s not surprising since Snow White has gotten plenty of time on screen in recent years from various studios, with Mirror Mirror and the semi-popular Snow White and the Huntsman series starring Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron. I’m assuming Disney was holding off on making their own live-action Snow White because of those projects. But now that every single one of their live-action remakes has been a hit, I’m not surprised that Disney is looking to get their own take on the story into production. They put Snow White on the map back in the 1930s and they’re probably feeling awfully possessive.

After Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Dumbo, Cinderalla and the upcoming Lion King, the real question is now which Disney film won’t get remade with real actors, actresses and locations? Disney still has quite a few properties up its sleeves and is showing no signs of slowing down. They will reach a point, however, when they’ll have to take on the more obscure titles like, say, The Aristocats or The Rescuers Down Under. Don’t put it past them! There’s a good chance they’ll do just that, especially if this Snow White ends up being a smash. It’s like they’re being encouraged by these mountains of money they’re making.
