It's been awhile since we heard from Detectives Riggs and Murtaugh. We last saw the unorthodox pair back in 1998. A lot has happened since then, including a television reboot, many other similar cop films and Mel Gibson's...stuff.

But we might not have seen the last of Danny Glover and Mel Gibson onscreen together because Deadline reports that Lethal Weapon 5 is currently being discussed at Warner Bros. Gibson and Glover would return, of course, along with director Richard Donner. We can also assume the sweet Eric Clapton guitar licks would also return.

The original Lethal Weapon films are definitely classic 80s cop dramas but do we need another installment all these years later? Weapon 3 and 4 weren't anything to write home about and there have been countless other buddy-buddy films since then. The world isn't crying out for more Lethal Weapons - especially since Shane Black's name isn't anywhere near this . Plus there is the whole Mel Gibson problem. The man is beginning his predictable Hollywood comeback these days and that's making a whole lot of people (including yours truly) very uncomfortable.

But this is 2017 and reboots and remakes are all the rage, especially for films from decades ago. So it's very likely Lethal Weapon 5 will happen and the rehabilitation of Mel Gibson's image will continue. Look at what you've done to us, Daddy's Home 2.
