TROUBLE CITY

‘Sonic The Hedgehog: Trailer: Sonic is an Alien Now?

After a massive backlash because of his character design, Sonic the Hedgehog is back with a brand new trailer for his feature film debut. This time Sonic looks RADICALLY different and honestly much better. He’s a spitting image of the video game character we knew from our days playing SEGA. Fans should be happy as hell now that Sonic resembles the mischievous blue speedster we know and love.

Oh, he’s also an alien now. More about that later. Watch the trailer and enjoy.

Sonic The Hedgehog definitely looks like the type of movie I would expect with this character. The titular hedgehog is humorous, sarcastic and has a bit of an attitude. Nothing shocking there. The trailer also shows him being chased across the country by the evil Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey). That also makes sense because this movie is going to heavily focus on Sonic’s speed because, well, duh. As for the type of humor and action showcased here, that all looks about right too. This is exactly the type of movie one would expect for a live-action Sonic.

But I am really confused by the fact that Sonic is a God damn extraterrestrial. Did anyone else know that? Has Sonic always been an alien? I didn’t know that! I thought he was just a fast, blue hedgehog. That was weird enough! I didn’t have any idea of him being from outer space. But, sure enough, the trailer above confirms that in the opening seconds. This won’t just be a movie about a super-fast hedgehog. It will be a movie about a damn alien invasion. Wild.

All that weirdness aside, I think Sonic The Hedgehog has a chance to be a big hit. The character channels the perfect type of energy for a young audience and the movie looks to contain an ample amount of action and jokes. I think kids will eat it up, even if a Sonic game hasn’t been popular in well over a decade. Older gamers will also have a passing interest in finally seeing this icon of the 90s on the big screen so that should get some butts in theater seats too. Plus it opens on Valentine’s Day, right before the busy movie season kicks off. It’ll have a nice chunk of time when it could dominate the box office. After much debate and controversy, things are looking good for Sonic.
