We haven’t heard much news since the casting of Robert Pattinson in Matt Reeves’s The Batman. No logo, no other casting, nothing to get us speculating.
What we ARE hearing is rumors. Rumors of who Batman will be battling when the film hits theaters in June 2021. The first set of rumors suggested that The Penguin and Catwoman would be two of the main villains in the movie. Now we are seeing reports that even more bad guys will be popping up. Batman is going to be a busy man.
Reports from GWW and Discussing Film say that The Mad Hatter, Two-Face, Firefly and The Riddler will also appear in the film. GWW even says that The Riddler will be the main nemesis in the movie, which would make sense since Reeves has repeatedly claimed the picture will be a detective story. Who better to challenge the Caped Crusader’s detective skills than The Riddler?
This all must be taken with a grain of salt because it’s the internet but it’s becoming more and more clear that Batman will be battling multiple bad guys. While that would usually be cause for concern because too many villains typically leads to a messy movie (see: Spider-Man 3) these rumors actually give me hope. Why? Because more villains means less screen time for them which would suggest that Reeves really is focusing much more on Batman. He has stated that this is a movie that will get inside the head of Bats, instead of focusing more on his enemies. Don’t get me wrong, I love the rogues gallery but it’s about time we have a Batman movie where Batman is the main draw.
Note: that does NOT mean I need to see how his parents were murdered again. I would just like the movie to be more about Batman than the poor fools he beats on.
