I forgot that NBC’s upcoming streaming service, Peacock, has a Saved By The Bell reboot on the way. In this modern age of countless reboots and remakes, can you really blame me? I can’t keep track of EVERYTHING!

Anyway, it seems that NBC has found a star to lead the new Saved By The Bell. Variety is reporting that Josie Totah (Glee, Spider-Man: Homecoming) will play Lexi in the new series. Lexi is “a beautiful, sharp-tongued cheerleader and the most popular girl at Bayside High, who is both admired and feared by her fellow students.” That sounds somewhat like Zack Morris from the original series so I can see they are creating similar character archetypes for this reboot.

Speaking of Morris, the reboot is described thusly. Get a read:

When California governor Zack Morris gets into hot water for closing too many low-income high schools, he proposes they send the affected students to the highest performing schools in the state – including Bayside High. The influx of new students gives the over-privileged Bayside kids a much needed and hilarious dose of reality.

Zack Morris as governor? I really don’t know how I feel about that. And what a bummer that our lovable, no-shits-given hero from the original series is now a politician who shuts down low-income high schools. That’s not the Zack I know and love.

Elizabeth Berkley and Mario Lopez are set to reprise their roles in the reboot, as well as be executive producers. No word on any other returning stars but if Zack is now the governor of California, you can bet he will turn up at least once or twice as a guest star. Mark Paul Gosselaar has suggested that he’d be game to return so I bet something is in the works. Hopefully someone, whether is be Totah’s new character or Slater or Jessie, will convince him to stop shutting down schools. Come on, Zack. You’re better than that.
