Don’t Tell President Trump: ‘The Hunt’ Gets A New Release Date

Blumhouse’s The Hunt was scheduled to come out back in September of 2019. The film is a satirical thriller about a group of liberal elites who kidnap a bunch of conservatives and hunt them for sport. Anyone with half a brain would be able to see the film is poking fun at political extremism and isn’t actually endorsing the idea of murdering strangers because of their views. Sadly, our president only has an eighth of a brain and angrily tweeted about the film, saying it was made to “inflame and create chaos.” Trump’s tweets, accompanied with a pair of tragic shootings, put Universal and Blumhouse in a tough spot. They threw in the towel and pulled the film’s release entirely, sending it into cinematic limbo. It seemed like we would never see The Hunt.

Well, we are going to see The Hunt. Universal has announced that the movie will now be released on March 13th. The studio revealed a new poster and trailer for the film, both of which highlight the controversy. The new trailer is actually damn good and smartly focuses on the playfulness of the film. The movie doesn’t feel so dark and heavy, it feels more like a thriller with comedic elements. Misconstrue that, Mr. President!

Watch the new trailer below.

I am really glad that The Hunt is finally seeing the light of day. Even if the film is a total waste (I doubt it will be) it’s important that it gets a proper release. The precedent set by the film’s earlier cancellation was scary and ultimately dangerous. I understand Universal wanting to delay the movie because of the shootings that occurred back in July. That makes sense and is the right, sensitive move. But to shelve the film because the president got pissed off and sent forth his belligerent minions is an awful call. It’s a bad decision under any president but definitely under one who isn’t even educated on the subject matter. President Trump never saw The Hunt. His supporters never saw The Hunt. The people crying out and saying that the film was an attack on conservative Americans were crying out over something they knew nothing about. And Universal caved! Yes, they were in an uncomfortable situation but they should have stood their ground. The president shouldn’t bully artists into submission.

Anyway, that’s in the past now but it certainly shouldn’t be forgotten. Trust me, an event like this will occur again You’re telling me this is the last time the president will get mad over something he doesn’t research?.

The Hunt hits theaters on March 13th. Time to see what all the hubbub is about.
