Announced today per Deadline, TriStar pictures is moving forward with a sequel to the 1986 Jim Henson puppet classic, Labyrinth. And what’s more, they’ve hired some creatives. Scott Derrickson, of Doctor Strange and a handful of horror movies, is stepping into the director’s chair, making this his first project after having exited the Strange sequel. His frequent collaborator, C Robert Cargill, will be acting as a producer, and the writer will be Maggie Levin, who worked with Derrickson and Cargill on the Hulu Horror series Into the Dark. Her website strongly suggests she’s the sort of person for whom Labyrinth really resonated.

No plot or casting information at this time, but what fun it will be to speculate! Jennifer Connelly’s kid gets into some Labyrinth adventure? Connelly herself, and it’s kinda like Hook or something? And of course, you’ve got the elephant in the room, who could possibly fill the pants of David' Bowie’s Goblin King? You’re gonna need someone like that, sexing up the puppet realm. Lady Gaga? Richard Dreyfuss? Who will it be?
