This week on the Frame Work podcast, a quick, spoiler-y reaction to the internet’s current favorite, HBO’s Mare of Easttown. We liked it! But after some quick joshing about accents and such, this ended up going to some surprising places. Does Mare follow in the footsteps of TV’s great antihero dramas? Is Mare a Vic Mackey-esque bad cop, or a Harry Callahan-esque bad cop? Or just a good cop? Is this a show about living inescapably in the shadow of death, or is it an uplifting rumination on mercy and forgiveness? Or both? Was the serial killer just a sidequest? We’re talking about big, heady topics like Cancel Culture and ACAB here, and you can hear me spontaneously develop a more nuanced appreciation of what Mare is putting down live. Be forewarned, it’s all spoilers, all throughout.

For more Frame Work, about David Fincher or Tarantino or Lord of the Rings and a bunch of other similar nonsense, you can find us on the podcast app of your choice (or, you know, just scroll down this page, I suppose). Look for the logo below!
