The last few years have been a time of change for Kevin Smith. He has suffered some health scares, lost a bunch of weight, focused on his family and well-being and still managed to be creatively fruitful with various TV and podcast projects. The guy seems to have a new lease on life and is keeping damn busy too.

And now we have the first trailer for his next film, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. While Smith may have undergone some major changes in his life, this trailer confirms that he certainly hasn’t when it comes to his movies. The trailer above guarantees that Reboot is a 100%, no-questions-asked, bonafide, tried-and-true Kevin Smith film. Everything about this, from the immature humor to the cameos to the story, is so on-brand for Smith. He’s taken some cinematic risks with his latest movies but this one looks like it’s definitely staying within his wheelhouse.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing! Smith has a huge fan base and they are going to be delighted with Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. Smith’s films often feel like a reunion of friends. Maybe the plot is thin and the jokes dumb but it’s fun to see all your favorites get back together on the big screen. And they’re out in full force here. The trailer showcases Smith, Jason Mewes, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Jason Lee, Shannon Elizabeth, Rosario Dawson and many, many more. Anyone associated with Kevin Smith is popping up in Reboot and that’s going to put a big, goofy smile on fans’ faces.

And how about those other cameos? I see Val Kilmer, Chris Hemsworth, Tommy Chong and a few others appearing in the preview. I’m sure that’s just the tip of the iceberg. People LOVE being in Kevin Smith movies and can you blame them? Like I said, his movies often feel like reunions and who wouldn’t want to be on a set with that sort of energy?

The plot is generic and bland, the jokes are childish and easy but that doesn’t mean Jay and Silent Bob Reboot won’t be EXACTLY what fans were hoping for. The movie will hit theaters this Fall.
