Charlize Theron has firmly established herself as the number one female action star in Hollywood, which is great, because she’s great at it. Today, the trailer for her next big action movie dropped, and we can all watch it in about six months on Netflix.
So, The Old Guard! Cute title. What we’ve got here is a comic book adaptation starring Theron as the leader of a squadron of immortal soldiers, eternally fighting ‘to protect the mortal world’. It appears they’ll be recruiting a new member to the team, and that bad guys show up, trying to steal their powers, one of whom might be Chiwetel Ejiofor. So, kind of like the bad guys from Doctor Sleep playing Counterstrike. Seems fun!
Theron in an Action movie is generally worth the price of admission, even if this appears more like an acceptable matinee than a must see, but considering that we’re still not sure what’s going to happen with Tenet, this may end up being the only action movie released this summer, and we can all watch it at home. So, like with Extraction before it, Netflix is reading the room correctly, I would imagine.
