There has been much speculation about James Gunn’s upcoming The Suicide Squad because of Gunn’s previous work and because of the previous Suicide Squad movie. Gunn’s earlier films have been great, of course. The earlier Suicide Squad was most definitely not. So people are hopeful that Gunn’s take on the franchise will be a major course correction.

Well, thanks to DC FanDome we are getting our first look at Gunn’s vision. The virtual convention is being held today and DC/Warner Bros is pulling out all the stops. They are finally giving fans what they want: a cast list of who is playing who in the superhero movie. The announcement was made via a video which is embedded below. Take a look but buckle your safety belt, it’s quite the extensive list.

What did I tell you, that’s a lot of people, huh?

I am particularly excited to see that most of the roles are lesser-known DC heroes (and anti-heroes). Gunn is playing with a call sheet full of B-listers and that gives him freedom to do pretty much anything he wants. I am sure he feels much more creative and unleashed since he isn’t being restricted by the confines of characters like Batman or Superman.

Gunn and company also gave viewers more goodies in the form of a behind-the-scenes video that showcased a bit more of The Suicide Squad. It doesn’t reveal much in terms of story but it definitely does show that the cast was totally game for a wild time. It also shows that Gunn was most definitely the right choice to take this franchise in direction it deserves.

Also, it shows King Shark. Long live King Shark.

The Suicide Squad is still set to open in 2021.
