Having recently spoken at length about Peter Jackson’s lights out successful adaptation of The Lord of the Rings, Al and myself decided to examine the other way such and undertaking can go, with a look at the complete failure film adaptation of Stephen King’s Dark Tower series. This is ostensibly about the profoundly disappointing 2017 film and the challenges of adapting difficult material, but as we’re both pretty huge fans of the series, one devout, one lapsed, we can’t help but talk about King’s series as a whole, and our feelings about the particularly, uhm, ambitious narrative turns it takes on its meandering path to the Tower. In a sense, this is for fans of the series, but also might serve as a primer for anyone interested. Just take note, we’re talking spoilers, with some of the more interesting plot twists getting discussed starting at about the 57:30 mark and the controversial ending at 1:25:05.
